A weird run of circumstance has built some online buzz as Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley teased an announcement online, set to land the same day that Linkin Park was set to make a hugely-anticipated announcement of their own.
That coincidence led many to speculate that maybe, just maybe, Whibley might be confirming that he would be taking on the spot of new vocalist for the iconic band. Dispelling any and all speculation, Whibley recently took to his socials to debunk the rumor and put any swirling commentary to bed.
Whibley said in a statement post to his social media, “I feel the need to dispel some current rumours. It’s been brought to my attention that many people think I could be joining a reuniting band. But I just want to say, despite popular belief, I am not joining Oasis… or Linkin Park. Or any other band for that matter."
Whibley continued, “I have my own ‘tour and book’ announcement that I will now move to the end of the week, ahead of our U.S. tour.
I do look forward to seeing whatever both these amazing bands do in the future.”
Later this fall, Whibley is set to publish his memoir, Walking Disaster: My Life Through Heaven and Hell, out October 8. The Gallery Books release offers an intimate account of Whibley's life in the public eye, his professional strides and earned accolades at the helm of Sum 41 and his harrowing health ordeal that forced him to confront mortality.
Whibley shared of his book, “Ten years ago, I found myself on the brink of death in a hospital bed. Surviving that moment, I made a promise to myself: I would fight harder than ever for this band and strive to become the best version of myself. Today, I’m proud to say that Sum 41 is experiencing the greatest success in our career, with our biggest hits on the radio and performing at the largest shows of our lives.
This book is the story of that journey—through the good, the bad, and the really fucking ugly. It’s about how I fought my way back, the battles I faced along the way, and how I turned those struggles into the fuel that powers everything I do now.”
Additional news regarding the release of his memoir, Whibley has confirmed a succession of book tour dates with confirmed stops in New Jersey, Boston, MA., Los Angeles at the Grammy Museum and a stop in Las Vegas on October 11th. The first three dates will include intimate discussion with special guests moderators, including Amazon Music's Kevan Kenney, Beyond All Repair and Endless Thread host Amory Sivertson and the venerated Matt Pinfield.
The news of the upcoming book tour will coincide with the final tour dates ever for Sum 41.
