Earlier this spring, respective groove metal vets Devildriver announced their 11th full length presentation, Strike and Kill, arriving July 10th via Napalm Records.
Along with the announcement and the updated configuration of the band, Devildriver began the campaign with aggressive lead single, "Dig Your Own Grave." Since it's release, the track has solidified its position on the charts and gone onto tally hundreds of thousands of streams in just a few short weeks - underscoring the appetite for the band.
With July fast approaching, Devildriver has shared the next preview from the album with one of their heaviest slabs yet. "Dead In the Water" is a ripper of s follow-up single, one that showcases the intensity that has made the band so beloved for years and balances both the band's past and auspicious future.
Frontman Dez Farfara shared of the newest single, "This is one of the most positive songs I've ever written lyrically, coming from a very dark time straight into blinding light. I needed to empower others to do the same as I did, and tell them to 'stay the course,' life turns around if given the chance to flourish.
The vibe musically on this is very old school DEVILDRIVER and the entire band is cracking hard here, if you're a long time listener you're gonna love this one! Enjoy!"
The arrival of Strike and Kill marks the return of Devildriver, following the acclaim of the band's two part epic in Dealing with Demons - launched respectively in 2020 and 2023. The current line-up of guitarists Alex Lee and Gabe Mangold of Enterprise Earth, along with drummer Davier Ortega Perez and the return of founding bassist Jon Miller clearly point to a band working in lockstep.
Speaking to the greater scope of the album, Farfara shared, "My headspace hasn't changed, I have not become complacent or soft in my view of the world or in my music. Metal is our outlet as listeners and writers, so on this record we focused on 'getting it all out' lyrically, and backing those lyrics with savage, relentless music that fuels the heavy California groove like no other. DEVILDRIVER has never sounded like any other band, we do our own thing in our own way, and I'm the most proud of that."
Out in support of Strike and Kill, Devildriver will also set out on a summer North American tour with support from Upon A Burning Body and Ov Sulfur. The tour begins August 14th in San Diego, CA and circles back around to close in Anaheim, CA on September 5th. A complete list of dates and cities can be found below.
