Among Southern California's legendary punk landscape, Venice Beach is long known as an integral part of that identity. It makes sense that hardcore punk's next blue chips hail from the region. The teenage unit of XCOMM are out to make their mark in punk and have issued an emphatic introduction with the release of the Ross Robinson-produced single, "Reasons".
The track recently premiered via SiriusXM Liquid Metal and served as the first sample of the band's forthcoming full length arriving via Blowed Out Records - the joint venture of Ross Robinson, Ghostemane, and Bill Armstrong. The explosive first showing also precedes the band's hyped showing this weekend in Louisville as XCOMM is set to take the stage at Louder Than Life Festival.
Speaking to the "We're not interested in recreating what used to be," the band explained. "'Reasons' is hardcore punk for people who viscerally live and breathe it, not just people who remember it. The song captures that feeling when everything feels like it's collapsing but you're still moving forward anyway. It's the weight of expectations crushing you while you're trying to break supersonic."
Speaking to the potency of XCOMM, Ross Robinson explained the kind of energy that he has experienced in working with the band and the fulfillment in seeing them unlock their creative potential. "XCOMM is the wild zone. It's bad-ass Venice Beach kids ripping with absolute fury. I felt so alive recording this one—kids screaming, flying around the studio, laying down raw performances making their world come alive."
XCOMM's debut album via Blowed Out Records is due to arrive early next year.
