Death rock destructors Final Gasp have announced the eagerly-awaited follow-up to their widely acclaimed 2023 debut, Mourning Moon. Combining occult style points with heavy-wielding metallic execution, the band's sonic mesh of post punk, metal fury and hardcore backbone has landed Final Gasp touring stints with a broad range of bands including Abbath, Gatecreeper, Fiddlehead, Poison Ruin, Devil Master and Imperial Triumphant ti list a few.
Expanding on the band's bleak, bulldozing signature, New Day Symptoms asserts Final Gasp as better refined songwriters, building upon the meld of sounds that earned them such universal praise initially. Enlisting producer Arthur Rizk to oversee the project, the result is a collection of 10-tracks that successfully bridges the band's collective influences while submitting their own contribution to the landscape of contemporary heavy music.
Officially commencing the new campaign, Final Gasp have shared the commanding first single from albu. with "The Apparition". Combining dark melodies, haunting heft and a mesmerizing visual directed by Caleb Gowett and Bill Politis to boot, "The Apparition" is Final Gasp achieving full stylistic stride.
Frontman Jake Murphy detailed the narrative driving the single, “A story of reality being much more horrifying than fiction,” Jake tells. “It’s about a captain and his crew on a small boat. A storm came and capsized it and he and his two crew members were forced to swim to some sort of safety. Ultimately only he survived, having to watch his two friends be taken away by something that could have been avoided. He knew a storm was coming but thought they could make it. It’s all about bad timing and facing the consequences.”
As for the direction of New Day Symptoms, the collaborative nature of the album's development speaks to the band's ability to work democratically - identifying their shared influences while retaining their creative integrity with a sound that shows reverence without becoming repetitive.Murphy elaborated, "... everything was on the table and everyone’s ideas were blending together really well. Naturally we still rely on what we’re used to, but this time we let ourselves explore different tones. And we were all so open and receptive to each others’ ideas that writing and recording this record was more of a collaboration.
Having Arthur produce this record opened even more ideas to us. Everyone was together at all times for a week while recording this, whether it be at the AirBnb working on songs, or working on them in the studio. It was a total hands-on, involved process between all of us."
Shortly following the release of the new record, the band will embark on a headlining trek with dates in the US and Canada. The tour begins February 26th in Cambridge, MA and closes out March 27th Little Rock, AR. A list of dates and cities can be found below.
