Texas death metal practitioners Frozen Soul have began their third full length campaign with the reveal of a massive collaboration track. Due to release No Place of Warmth May 8th via Century Media, Frozen Soul have tapped Gerard Way of My Chemical Romance to guest on the album's walloping title track.
Establishing a crushing cadence driven by relentless percussion, contemporary death metal guitars and the vocal onslaught from frontman Chad Green, Frozen Soul reassert their superiority that first had heavy music on notice with their 2023 release, Glacial Domination. Setting the bar for the album, "No Place of Warmth" frames death metal modernity with the cold realties that drive the album's underlying themes.
Chad Green elaborated on the title track, “'No Place of Warmth' about life at its coldest and the choice you have to let it consume you, or to use it to find warmth in a world that feels void of it. Life is always coming at you, and death doesn’t stop—you might slow it down, but it’s always coming—so you have to make the best out of it and march on.”
As for the guest assist from Gerard Way, Green went onto explain how friendship and shared love for the art would eventually lead the two to find common ground. “We met Gerard a couple of years ago and have become friends. I knew he had a love for metal, so I spun the idea to him about singing in a Frozen Soul song and he was stoked! Gerard is an amazing artist and musician whose creative vision has shaped generations and more to come.”
Working with producer Josh Schroeder, Frozen Soul look to continue their meteoric trajectory as flagbearers for American death metal. From the band's 2021 full length debut, Crypt of Ice, to the earned acclaim and breakout success of 2023's Glacial Domination, Frozen Soul understood the lofty expectations going into album three but opted to rely on their instincts above all else when going into the studio. “Our mindset was to stop overthinking it and trying to write the most epic song,” explained Green.
Despite the album's thematic lean towards finality and the looming frost of death, Green insists the direction of the record aims to find light in the darkest of places. “Each song on this record has its own meaning and influences that helped make them what they are, but in their essence are written to give the listener that extra push and power they need to fight those everyday battles. These songs are built to say ‘We won’t be swept away by its winds; we can and we will move forward."
In addition to the guest feature from Gerard Way, No Place of Warmth also touts special assists from Devin Swank of Sanguisugabogg and the legendary Rob Flynn of Machine Head, assembling a generational roster of firepower that makes album three for Frozen Soul undeniable.
“Anytime we have features, it’s with friends and bands that we love and respect who share the same feelings and emotion that we’re trying to get across in the song,” says Green. “Gerard, Rob and Devin all added their own unique styles and love into the songs and really helped bring them to life. It was an absolute pleasure working with them.”
En route to the May 8th arrival of No Place of Warmth, Frozen Soul are currently trekking throughout Europe as part of a massive bill featuring Heaven Shall Burn, The Halo Effect & The Black Dahlia Murder. Shortly after completing their international stretch, Frozen Soul joins Avatar for a North American trek that begins in Sacramento, CA on Apri 16th and extends through the end of May.
