The storied Furnace Fest in Birmingham, Alabama looked to have closed the book on their second run following a successful resurrection of the banner that began in 2021 and extended through 2024.
The curated collection of punk and hardcore staples, cult favorites and the occasional one off reunion performances was expected to go on a hiatus, but with a highlight 2024 year that saw standout performances from the likes of Poison the Well, Coheed and Cambria, Bane, Silverstein, Underoath, Comeback Kid, Misery Signals, Better Lovers and a whole host more, it looks as though the fest intended to move forward.
Among the very first bands confirmed for what is being called the Silver Surprise edition of Furnace Fest set for October of this year, Santa Cruz hardcore party collective DRAIN have been confirmed as one of the anchor performances for 2025.
Festival organizers began the rollout of announcements, and shared that securing Drain was a big part of choosing to proceed. “In late October of last year, before A Silver Surprise had barely taken shape, one band kept circling like a smiling baby shark in my mind—one band I could picture delivering an Andrew W.K.-level Shed performance. Somehow, I knew that if Furnace Fest was going to continue, there was only one place to start: Drain.
With a whole bunch of nervous energy, I called my good friend @jamesxaloisio. *”Hey man, I’m thinking about carrying Furnace Fest forward. I feel like this community still needs and craves an annual reunion. Would Drain back us? Would they be the first to jump in?”*
Here we are. The first step. The starting point.
The level of support from James, Drain, and so many others has been mind-blowing. See you in the Shed Friday night, October 3rd, fam!”
Steadily adding to the roster, the first day of announcements have unveiled that SPEED spin-off Secret World will also join the festivities. Youth crew champions Ten Yard Fight will also reunite at Furnace Fest with early 2000's darlings A Change of Pace also set to join rank.
