Gaerea Pair Post Rock and Black Metal on Their Latest, "Unknown"

Gaerea Pair Post Rock and Black Metal on Their Latest, "Unknown"

- By Ramon Gonzales

The band's fourth full length, Coma, lands later this fall via Season of Mist.

Portuguese black metal modernists Gaerea continue to ratchet up their brand of unrelenting extremity. Recently confirming their fourth full length effort, Coma, the album is due out October 25th via Season of Mist. Positioning the band as one of extreme music's most commanding, complete forces, the succession of previews thus far in "Hope Shatters" and "World Ablaze" suggest an album of the year candidate is on the way.

On the latest showing from the album, "Unknown" further develops the band's enigmatic presence. Paired post-rock dynamics with the band's black metal blitz, the track presents a masterful ebb and flow of energy and explosiveness. The trakc is paired with a powerful performance visual directed by Claudio Marino and produced by Artax Film. The clip showcases the band's mysterious, menacing presence combined with an unhinged performance.

Along with the pending release of the band's next full length, Gaerea are due to hit the stage for lengthy North American run supporting Zeal & Ardor this fall, following their recent European trek which included a highlight set supporting Behemoth in Poland. Gaerea's North American run alongside Zetra in support of Zeal & Ardor begins November 23rd in Philadelphia and concludes December 18th with a finale in Dallas.
