French metal titans Gojira have added an impressive first to their already accomplished careers. Gojira will be the first ever metal band to perform at the Olympic Games.
According to published reports in regional publication Le Parisien, Gojira will be featured as a performer for the opening ceremony of the XXXIII Olympic Games. teaming with opera singer Marina Viotti, the two entities will converge for a special original collaboration performance as part of the opening ceremony slated for July 26th.
Gojira will serve as the first ever metal band to take the global stage and joins prestigious company, sharing the same showcases as icons like Lady Gaga and Celine Dion who have also been confirmed for the ceremony's run of show.
It is reported that the opening ceremony will see attendance numbers exceeding more than 300,000 people, with a audience of millions turning in around the globe. Gojira joins an especially small group of rock-centric artists that have played the Olympic games including KiSS in 2002 for the Salt Lake City Winter Games and Muse in 2012 the London Summer Games.
The opening ceremony of the XXXIII Olympic Games will be held along the Seine River in Paris and will begin at 7:30pm CET, 1:30pm ET.
