Earlier this month, the hardcore passion project led by chef and multi-talent Matty Matheson announced their official launch in signing with hardcore authority Flatspot Records. The band which also features longtime friends and veterans of the scene including Wade MacNeil of Alexisonfire/Gallows, Daniel and Ian Romano of Attack in Black and Tommy Major recently made their live debut during a hometown set in Toronto last month.
Aligned with the likes of SPEED, End It, Buggin' and more, Pig Pen confirmed their spot on the Flatspot roster, along with the news of the band's full length, debut album due out June 27th in Mental Madness.
Kicking off the album campaign, Pig Pen delivered the introductory title track - a cut that transitions from slow burn to towering inferno, the combination of Matheson and McNeil barreling into their vocals make for first outing that delivered a gut-punch of intensity.
Doubling down on that ferocity that has underlined everything Pig Pen thus far, the band has issued a primal, powerful second single with the release of "Rabid Beach". Defined by chaotic guitars, pummeling drums and an unhinged vocal performance from Matheson, the track is a emphatic show of force and testament to band's hardcore lineage. Paired with an animated headtrip of a new video hand-drawn by Jesi Jordan, the track serves to heighten the anticipation of the new record.
Fleshing out the ideas for the songs from long distance and over the course of a months, the band would eventually connect to complete the tracks in one day and record them all the very next. Embracing a real DIY DNA, the band's ability to act on impulse and refine it, results in a potent meld of 80's, time-tested hardcore executed with rock music sensibility. With Arthur Rizk on the mix and Alan Douches on the master - the album makes for a walloping presentation.
Mental Madness is due out June 27th via Flatspot Records. The album is available for pre-order - HERE
