The release captures the sonic power of the band’s live ritual over the last two years.
Norwegian black metal lifers Mayhem have announced plans to release a new live record, Daemonic Rites, on September 15th via Century Media Records. Encompassing some 17 massive tracks spanning the band’s most recent touring campaign, the album documents the last two years of relentless touring, touching down in cities across the globe.
“We wanted to document how great the band and set sounds like after almost 40 years of playing live,” explains Mayhem bassist Necrobutcher. “As a treat to our fans, we decided to release this live recording.”
The album punctuates an important four year stretch \for the band following their groundswell of momentum in the wake of their 2019 full length LP, Daemonic. Earning wide-spread acclaim, the album included the supplemental release with the 2021 EP, Atavistic Black Disorder, further cementing the band’s legacy as one of black metal’s most enduring collectives.
Coupled with the news of the monumental live release, Mayhem have unveiled the first sample from the collection with a breathtaking performance visual for “Malum (Live 2022).” The clip was helmed by accomplished director Zev Deans and presents Mayhem’s unholy live ritual in all its glory, from their New York City appearance back in March of 2022.
The announcement also lands ahead of Mayhem’s scheduled return to the road joining the likes of Cannibal Corpse, Gorguts, and Blood Incantation for an extensive U.S. fall tour. The trek begins late September in Nashville, TN and closes out with a finale in Louisville, KY on October 21st. A full list of dates can be found below.
