On the eve of their silver anniversary run commemorating 25 years of L.D. 50, Mudvayne have doubled down another new offering of music just two weeks after issuing their first new single in nearly two decades.
Unleashing "Hurt People Hurt People," the explosive return effectively reasserted the power of Chad Gray, Greg Tribbett, Ryan Martinie and Matthew McDonough that first transformed the landscape of heavy music during the formative 00's era. The single presented an impressive return to form and ushered in a resounding reintroduction that landed with fans both old and new.
Just two weeks after the band's emphatic reemergence, Mudvayne have unloaded a second strike with the single, "Sticks and Stones". While "Hurt People Hurt People" leaned into sonic volatility, "Sticks and Stones" showcases Mudvayne's sense of introspection, powered by poignant catharsis that shifts from hushed to loud and builds to a massive metallic crescendo.
"I was always told 'sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me,'" says frontman Chad Gray. "Well, it's a great nursery rhyme, but I couldn't disagree more. I've carried a lot of words throughout my life as if they were just spoken to me. The reality is — they do hurt. I've tried my best to shed them, but when they come from dear friends, family — people that are suppose to love you — the words have teeth and they won't let go.
Blood doesn't wash out; iit stains. I think I'm just trying to remind people to love their children. Don't use them as a bullet to fire into your ex or whomever you're with now. They're innocent and they are impressionable. And trust me, as a child, that was used as a weapon, your words will hurt them...long after you say them."
To celebrate the release of Mudvayne's newest offerings, the band has launched a pre-order for a double A Side 7" vinyl pressing of the pair of tracks. Along with a standard version, a limited edition, signed variant will also be available and limited to just 500 copies. Pre-orders for the special release can be found - HERE
Among the most definitive albums of the Y2K era of American metal, Mudvayne's mammoth debut L.D. 50 would unleash the fury of Mudvayne on a global audience. A staggering combination of force and technicality, the effort was produced by Garth Richardson along with the band and included the oversight from the likes of Steve Richards and Shawn "clown" Crahan.
Revisiting the magnitude of the album, Mudvayne will embark on a silver anniversary tour nearly 25 years to the day of the initial release. Mudvayne will take to the road to perform some of their most beloved and enduring entries from L.D. 50 live, taking on auditoriums, amphitheaters and arenas on the run.
Emphasizing the generational reach and lasting impact of Mudvayne, the band has recruited a powerful one-two as live support for the tour. Purveyors of evil disco in Static-X will serve as direct support on the run with heavy music's new blood in Vended taking on the task of opening the tour.
The run is set to kick off September 11th in Dubuque, IA and come to a dramatic finale at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, CT on October 26th to close out the run. A complete list of dates and cities can be found below. Get tickets - HERE
