Philadelphia shoegaze collective NOTHING have announced their first full length record with Run for Cover, A Short History of Decay. The February 27th marks the first non-collaborative album delivered by NOTHING since their acclaimed 2020 LP, The Great Dismal.
As for the current configuration of the band, the Domenic Palermo-led project now features guitarists Doyle Martin and Cam Smith of Cloakroom along with former Best Coast bassist Bobb Bruno. Working in close collaboration with former NOTHING member and Whirr cohort Nicholas Bassett, the self-produced effort finds Palermo confronting time and fragility - speaking on his neurological disorder that causes tremors. Speaking candidly about his headspace on A Short History of Decay, Palermo confided, “It’s another thing that just makes you think, ‘My body’s in a decline right now. Things are starting to fall apart.”
Beginning the newest campaign, NOTHING have release the first serving from the album with "Cannibal World". Existing somewhere between Sonic Youth and Slowdive, the track serves well in contrasting Palermo's lush vocals with tense percussion and sonics that shift from harmonious to harsh.
With the new year shaping up to be pivotal for NOTHING, the band will also mark the tenth anniversary of Tired of Tomorrow as part of their Slide Away Festival. The three weekend endeavor will host stops in New York, Chicago and Los Angeles next May and will feature a headlining set from HUM in addition to performances from Chapterhouse, Mint Field, Manslaughter 777 and more.
