Regarded as one of the most crushing records in the Slayer cannon, God Hates Us All remains one of thrash music's most unrelenting works. Marking the 25th anniversary of it's 2001 release, blackened deathcore collective Ov Sulfur have emphasized the album's enduring influence with a cover version of the standout track. "Disciple".
The take on the classic arrives from the same recording session that fruited the band's brusing 2026 full length release, Endless. With slight variations to the anthem, including vocalist Ricky Hoover's guttural roar and a brief burst of blast beats for good measure, the track is an earnest tribute to one of the best to ever do it.
Guitarist Chase Wilson explained, "'God Hates Us All' has always been one of my favourite Slayer records. I'm stoked we got to put our spin on one of the sickest songs on it!"
Frontman Ricky Hoover welcomed thje chance to tip his hat to the legends, "I was excited when the guys decided to do a Slayer cover, as it allowed me to see if I could hit Tom Araya style vocals. He's a unique, stand-out voice in metal, and it was fun to see if I could add his signature melodic shouting to my repertoire."
The cover lands as the band reset following a successful North American trek with Devildriver. Later this year, Ov Sulfur will take on Europe for their first extended tour of the region, along with Mental Cruelty and Extermination Dismemberment.
