Back with the first offering of original music since the 2024 release of Veritas, rock music veterans P.O.D. have enlisted Cory Brandan from metalcore champs Norma Jean for one of the heaviest songs of their career, "Outbreak".
Produced by the highly in-demand Will Yip, the single features a powerhouse performance with frontman Sonny Sandoval trading lines with Brandan on a single that frames the band's affinity for all things undead.
Guitarist Marcos Curiel explained of the track, "As avid fans of zombie apocalypse, video games, and movies, it seemed only fitting to compose a song about this topic. The song delicately straddles the line between nonfiction and fiction. It's fun yet hard-hitting, bridging the gap between what’s real and what's not."
The collaborative track traces back to the band's tour run together in 2024. Sonny Sandoval elaborated on the decision to bring in the Norma Jean vocalist for one of P.O.D.'s most explosive tracks to date.
This is possibly one of the heaviest songs P.O.D. has ever written, so we wanted to showcase a guest vocalist who reflected that. Cory's voice and tone bring a specific intensity and command that draws you in. Our voices together deliver an authoritative energy that matches the power of the song."
Sandoval continued, "Marcos sent me a rough guitar demo, which had the working title of 'OUTBREAK.' This by far was the heaviest idea yet, and I immediately texted him how much I loved it. Once I heard it, I knew there was no need to change the title and use it as the lyrical theme. The guitar riff and warning sample immediately gave me a frantic, apocalyptic, doomsday-type vibe."
The latest single from P.O.D. lands as the band prep for a a run of live dates with festival appearances at Aftershock, Sick New World in Ft. Worth, TX and a comprehensive Australian tour for Good Things Festival. See the list of confirmed dates and cities below.
