Metallic doom goth legends Paradise Lost have set a September 19th arrival date for their 17th studio album, Ascension, due out via Nuclear Blast Records. The announcement follows the band's reveal earlier this year, debuting the charging "Silence Like the Grave" - a track that marked the first unveiling of music since the band's universally acclaimed 2020 effort, Obsidian

Ascension serves as Paradise Lost's first album in some five years. The album was produced by guitarist Gregor Mackintosh with a final mixed/master from Lawrence Mackrory. Offering some insight to the mystique and menace of the 10-track presentation, the album art for Ascension features a depiction of The Court of Death from  renowned British artist George Frederic Watts.

The painting offers a poignant reminder that death remains the great equalizer, frames the significance of a warrior surrenders his sword and a duke his coronet as the pass unto the Great Unknown - forfeiting their status and becoming just like everyone else. Speaking to the narrative depth of Ascension, Nick Holmes shared, "Ascension is a cavalcade of molten misery, a vigorous sorrow filled stroll through a wicked world of glorious triumph and pitiful tragedy."

Coupled with the news of the landmark 17th full length album, Paradise Lost have delivered a second single from the presentation with the release of "Serpent On the Cross". The colossal track showcases the band's prowess more than three decades into their tenure and sets the stage for an album that is mammoth in both concept and execution.

Holmes further elaborated on the new single, "The cross represents stability, prosperity, hope and happiness. The serpent represents trepidation, anguish and overbearing sadness, lurking in the shadows ready to take everything away."

In support of the September release of Ascension, Paradise Lost will be out on tour this fall. Currently performing at various festivals across Europe, the first leg of the “Ascension of Europe” kicks off in October and will feature supporting sets from Messa, High Parasite and Lacrimas Profundere.
