PULSE TRACKS: 10 OF THE BEST SONGS FROM THE MONTH OF JULY

- By Ramon Gonzales -->

Check the recap of fresh singles that arrived last month from the likes of Fleshwater, Dying Wish, King Yosef, Signs of the Swarm and more.

END IT - "OPTICAL DELUSIONS" (FLATSPOT RECORDS)

Working with Zooboy and Noah Haycock, END IT tap into the heyday of MTV to revisit the pop culture combat of Celebrity Deathmatch with their own spin, Band Beatdown. Soundtracking claymation violence with unrelenting hardcore, the fiery-paced pummel of the track works too well with the animated splatter in the ring - dropkicks and all. END IT continues to be one of hardcore's most coveted prospects for good reason.

SANGUISUGABOGG - "ROTTED ENTANGLEMENT" (Century Media Records)

Following the initial introduction from the album with "Abhorrent Contraception". featuring Josh Welshman from Defeated Sanity, the death metal purists have asserted their brutality once again with the NSFW, "Rotted Entanglement". A merciless show of death metal force, the track is the 'Bogg at their most bolstered, packaged with a new visual that showcases volatile live shows and plenty of spewing blood.

DYING WISH - "I'LL KNOW YOU'RE NOT AROUND" (SharpTone Records)

Commencing the band's new cycle for the forthcoming full length, Flesh Stays Together, Dying Wish dropped a potent preview from the project with the lead single, "I'll Know You're Not Around". Defined by soaring showing from Boster, combined with the powerful surge of from guitarists Sam Reynolds and Pedro Carrillo, Dying Wish have resurfaced better distilled and more dominant than ever.

FLESHWATER - "JETPACK" (Closed Casket Activities)

Introducing 2000: In Search of the Endless Sky, Fleshwater has shared the lead single, "Jetpack". Paired with a visual directed by Eric Richter, the track emphasizes the band's consuming sound and healthy balance of hulk and harmony. The single asserts a well-constructed foundation combining elements of heavy alt and nostalgic shoegaze resulting in a seriously soaring track.

ORBIT CULTURE - "HYDRA" (Century Media Records)

On "Hyrda," Swedish unit Orbit Culture further secure their position among metal's most progressive and potent songwriters. Further exploring their artistic potential, the band have launched a pivotal new era, eveidence by the scope and ambition of an epic track like "Hydra". While every band is intent on saying their most recent album is their most complete effort to date, the technicality and intensity of Orbit Culture really does back that up that claim.

KING YOSEF - "VI COACTUS" (Bleakhouse)

Among the very few willing and able to bridge the worlds of industrial and hardcore with skill and authenticity, King Yosef is among the head of the class and "Vi Coactus" resounding proof. A show of hardcore backbone with an electronic pulse, the track is defined by hostile vocals, pummeling percussion and amplified by glitchy, harsh electronic elements that separate Yoself from the pack. It's not often you score a hardcore track with a slowed DnB break. A+

HOLY WARS - "CRUCIFY" (Pale Chord)

On the brink of breakout success, Holy Wars continue to shine as one of hard rock's brightest young talents. The band's own Nicolas Perez teamed with Wage War's Cody Quistad for their latest, "Crucify". The driving track fuses the vocal command of Ket Leon with urgent guitars and dynamic percussion resulting in the kind of rock anthem that positions the band for greatness. Accomplishing the rare feat of being both well-produced and not overly polished, this is rock modernized.

SIGNS OF THE SWARM - "TO RID MYSELF OF TRUTH" (Century Media)

The title track of the band's pending sixth full length album due out this August, "To Rid Myself of Truth" is everything fans love about deathcore. Even down to the single bell of the ride cymbal that ushers in chaos, Signs of the Swarm really lean into their roots with a heater that frontman David Simonich confides has "the heaviest breakdown on the record". Breakneck fervor, vile, venomous vocals and plenty of explosive energy throughout, the Pittsburgh vets have their finest work yet on deck.

PEELINGFLESH - "MIDNIGHT" (Unique Leader Records)

Oklahoma prospects PeelingFlesh have shared the first single from the EP in "Midnight". The EP version follows the collaboration with Svdden Death, YVM3 and NIMDA with the more EDM-driven earlier this year. Leaning into the band's death metal chops and affinity for timeless hip hop samples, Ice-T's nod to Boogie Down Productions on the 1989 "Midnight" is core to the updated track. Style points and slam pits, PeelingFlesh toe that fine line with confidence.

SWOLLEN TEETH - "FOUR WARS" (Blowed Out Records)

Melding aggressive guitars, quickfire tempo-shifts, corrosive vocals and accents of turntablism and sampling, Swollen Teeth's varied mode of attack channels chaos into a laser-focused musical weapon. The latest preview from the band's pending full length, Ask Nothing, the band have earned the cosign of the likes of legendary producer Ross Robinson and Slipknot's Sid Wilson for good reason.
