The creative universe of Puscifer has grown to include the launch of a new comic book series, Tales From The Pusciverse. Coinciding with the release of the band's next full length album, Normal Isn't, the narrative of the series builds off the characters introduced in the next LP, with issue on Bellendia Black, who was first seen in the band’s music video for “Pendulum”.
Featuring artwork and illustration from Marlin Shoop, cover art by Andy Belanger and typography from Jack Morelli, the Pusciverse is brought to life as Maynard James Keenan adds to his creative repertoire, going from comic book enthusiast to writer.
“I remember how excited I was as an elementary school kid when Wolverine was first introduced in one of the Hulk issues. Called neighborhood dibs immediately (long before cosplay was a named thing),” Keenan said. “Seeing Bellendia Black in print brings back all of those joyful school kid memories.”
“Puscifer’s leap into comics with Maynard Keenan isn’t merch or novelty – it’s an extension of their long-running conversation with the absurd,” says Marlin Shoop. “The book hums with the same tension as the music: satire wrapped in menace, humor sharpened into philosophy. I’m glad I could be a part of that and bring it to their vision.”
The arrival of the first issue of Tales from the Pusciverse sets the stage and introduces the series which will expand with additional issues centered on characters including Fanny Grey and The Synth Whisperer.
The announcement of the comic book series follows last week's unveiling of Puscifer's third and final single, "ImpetuoUs". The stylishly dark, subtly tense track underscores the broad creative range of the collective as they approach the February 6th arrival of their next full length outing, Normal Isn't.
“I’m looking forward to hearing where this song takes people,” Maynard James Keenan shared. “As the writers, we forget that in a way, we are carpenters and that we’ve been with this song since it was a pile of lumber. Our Perspective may differ from the final occupant of this space we’ve constructed. Shelter, Bridge or Gallows, Coffin? Curious to find out.”
Following the release of Normal Isn't next month, Puscifer will begin a subsequent North American tour in support of the album. The run begins on March 20th in Las Vegas and will include featured stops at New York’s Terminal 5, The Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, and the famed Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado.
