Australia's sonic chameleons in King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard have announced the expansion of their electronic embrace started with 2023's The Silver Cord.  Confirming their incomprehensible 28th full length studio album. Alien Metal, will arrive later this summer via  p(doom) records. 

Derived from sextet's contemporary rave shows, Alien Metal is the result of the band's full immersion in electronic music. Equipped with a modular synthesizer that propelled the rave shows (affectionately named Nathan) the collective has added electronic to their ever-evolving arsenal that spans from prog, thrash, jam, synth and beyond. 

The introduction of new weaponry in the Eurotrack synthesizer has afforded an added creative freedom that has energized the band. "It completely rewired my brain," said Stu Mackenzie. "I was like, 'I'm going to forget everything I know about music and relearn it all from scratch'."

Along with the new terrain, the band explained that the process to craf something so ambitious has been anything but easy. "We've never scrapped so much material as we have for this album," Mackenzie says. "Entire albums, entire universes that were formulated, created, recorded, deleted and started again."

Finally distilling the right combination, the end result on Alien Metal is a marriage of the band's signature psychedelia across a swath of electronic subgenre ranging from jungle, house, techno and hardcore. 

To introduce the album, the band has teamed with director Hayden Somerville to launch the headtrip music video for the single, "Level 5." Equal parts sci-fi odyssey and otherworldly soundtrack, the cut marks the start of King Gizzard's next and arguably most audacious era. 

Next month, King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard head their sold out Field of Vision Festival in Colorado with sets from Angine de Poitrine, Blood Incantation, Die Spitz, Jello Biafra, Primitive Ring, Upcheck, W.I.T.C.H. and more. Additionally, the band will take on three consecutive nights for their Forest Hills Stadium shows in New York as well as their Under The K Bridge Park rave show to complete their NY takeover.
