While still tallying accolades from the September release of their debut EP, A Fate Worse Than Loneliness, metallic firebrand Showing Teeth have doubled down with a ferocious follow-up single in "Hellraiser". The standalone effort augments the still swelling praise of the introductory EP, while reiterating the power and poignance of the surging metalcore prospects.
As for the thematic weight of the single, the hostility of "Hellraiser" is fueled by real life experience as Showing teeth confronts the stark reality of abuse of power and takes aim at those that leverage position to coerce and subjugate the same community they are supposed to be supporting.
Showing Teeth shared of the powerful single, "'Hellraiser' is about the rage I feel towards my upbringing and the suffering I faced by the hands of the very people claiming to hold the keys to heaven. These people swear on a bible and fearmonger in the name of God, pandering to people in my community, all the while, protecting pedophiles and r*pists in power. Hell is very real, and the devil shows his face every time someone is hurt, assaulted, oppressed, or killed because of who they are."
From the track's aggressive guitars, thudding percussion and Showing Teeth's visceral vocal attack, the conviction that reads between the lines only serves to make the single such a potent musical weapon.
Showing Teeth added, "It was important to me to include drag artists in the 'Hellraiser' video, because of the inspiration they give me in my writing, as well as to push back against the punishment drag art receives from Christian conservative media. I remember the first time I saw a horror drag artist, and it changed everything I knew about art; the contrast of the beauty and the gore felt like something I had been missing in the art I consumed. Horror drag has inspired so much in my music and my life."
The latest single in "Hellraiser" lands as Showing Teeth recently completed an important supporting run of North America, joining PRESIDENT for a sold out tour of the region. The band have already begun lining up their itinerary for next year with confirmed dates at Welcome to Rockville and Sonic Temple, in addition to a run of European festival dates.
