The Smashing Pumpkins Mark 30 Years of 'Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness'

- By Ramon Gonzales -->

The Rats In A Cage Tour will feature two distinct sets celebrating the seminal double album along with a career-spanning performance of the band's most iconic songs.

Pulling out a bit of the theatrics, Billy Corgan and the Smashing Pumpkins hosted a somber memorial over the weekend in the form a rock show.

Taking over the Hollywood Legion Theater inside the American Legion Post 43 in Los Angeles, the band presided over their Requiem for Zero. The invitation only event featured an intimate performance from the Smashing Pumpkins as Corgan put to rest the alter ego of Zero, the iconic antihero synonymous with the era of Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness.

The weekend congregation not only marked the end of Zero, but served as an introduction to the 30th anniversary celebration of the seminal double album, Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness. Doubling as a ceremonial rollout of The Rats In A Cage Tour, the Smashing Pumpkins will set out on an comprehensive headlining trek to commemorate the 30 years of the landmark album.

Set to perform two distinct sets, the band will revisit the culture-shifting album along with a performance of the band's most iconic hits and "dark treasures" spanning their nearly 40 year catalog. The tour will begin September 30th in Columbus, OH and conclude with a penultimate date in Los Angeles at The Kia Forum on November 12th prior to the band's featured appearance at Darker Waves on November 14th in Huntington Beach, CA.
