Slipknot's creative architect explains how his latest endeavor allows him to explore his full artistic potential while cultivating community through in-game collaboration.  

Earlier this month, Slipknot creative architect and multi-hyphenate Shawn 'clown' Crahan unveiled his hugely ambitious foray into the Minecraft universe with the launch of his own server, Vernearth. The multi-mode Minecraft experience further explores the artistic psyche of clown, bridging community-reinforcing, in-game creativity and competition with the vision of one of heavy music's most dynamic forces. 

Composed of four distinct player modes, Oblivion, PVP/Event, Plotworld, and Challenge Mode, Vernearth was constructed with each kind of Minecraft player in mind, giving builders of all levels the tools to explore and thrive. 

Recently speaking with Escapist Magazine regarding the scope and scale of the project, clown shared how the infinite possibilities of the Minecraft universe compelled him to dive into Vernearth with such enthusiasm.  “I’m not doing this because it’s the biggest game in the world. I’m doing it because the potential of it is endless.”

Cultivating a multimedia approach to his craft throughout his tenure in Slipknot, the dedicated Minecraft server and ongoing evolution of Vernearth offer a unique platform for clown to better explore his artistic bandwidth.  “This is the biggest art piece I’ve made in my entire life. Not because it’s massive — because it lets me combine everything I am.”

Having long been a proponent of the great er culture surrounding Slipknot and the significance of community, the shared synergy of Vernearth is also something that excites him about the project.  “You can change any of my stuff. Add to it. Let’s work together. That’s the whole point.”

Vernearth's Challenge mode will consist of 45-day seasons, each introducing a new Slipknot-inspired theme, custom world generation, brutal mechanics, and high-stakes objectives. Designed with the hardcore competitor in-mind, Challenge mode pits big risk, with big reward via permanent titles, exclusive cosmetics, Hall of Heroes placement and a share of the prize pool.
