Working at an incredibly prolific pace, Thornhill are still ascending following the April release of their unanimously-praised LP, Bodies earlier this year. The UNFD full length has further propelled the band to new heights, hailed for their refined heft, sharp songwriting and fiery live execution. 

As a result, the band was selected for the coveted supporting spot on the Even In Arcadia North American tour, opening nightly for Sleep Token on their completely sold out fall stretch. Coinciding with the start of the tour, Thornhill is capitalizing on the timing by delivering a mammoth new single, “Mercia”. 

Showcasing the band's elevated approach to heavy, the track merges elegant melody with moments of explosive catharsis, making for a track that is memorable as it is impactful. 

Frontman Jacob Charlton offered his take on the new music and the emotion that drives the track. "‘Mercia’ is a song about loving someone lost in their own abyss. It speaks to the ache of giving everything—warmth, devotion, even the hope of carrying their pain—only to be met with silence and defences, by ‘vaults’ and ‘ice’. At its heart, the song is about the futility of trying to heal what resists healing, and the way that struggle leaves you altered, hardened, and haunted. By the close, the speaker admits they are sinking under the weight of their beloved’s spectre. They’ve been hardened by the experience — so much so that they can’t offer mercy anymore.”

Adding to their arsenal of emotive aggression, the single only adds to the swelling momentum still building with Bodies. The album debuted at #4 on the ARIA Albums Chart, #8 on Spotify UK’s Top Album Debuts and secured Top 40 entries across multiple Billboard U.S. charts, including Hard Music, Rock, and Independent Albums.
