Trivium's Matt Heafy to Score Metal Horror Cult Film Favorite, 'Deathgasm 2: Goremageddon

- By Ramon Gonzales

Director Jason Lei Howden has currently launched a Kickstarter campaign, sourcing the fans' support to complete the sequel to the beloved 2015 original.

Made on a shoestring budget back in 2015, the original comedy/horror indie, Deathgasm marked the feature length directorial debut of Jason Lei Howden - who would go onto helm acclaimed entries like 2019's Guns Akimbo.

Deathgasm's brilliant balance of metal culture and grindhouse-style gore made for a successful balance, one that saw the film earn high praise on the festival circuit and strike a chord with a cult-like fanbase given it's nexus to both horror and extreme music.

Nearly a decade since the film first debuted, a sequel is now in the works and has enlisted metal music expertise of the highest level to ensure the score for the second film is superior.

Deathgasm 2: Goremageddon received a huge boost in confirming Trivium architect Matt Heafy will score the next installment in the series. Speaking on the announcement, Howden explained how Heafy was the ideal choice to ensure the soundtrack for the film achieved a new plateau.

"Matt is not only a metal savant but also a genuine horror enthusiast. His ability to capture the various needs of the film and bring it to life via the score is something I believe will blow audiences out of their seats."

Heafy also shared is eagerness to get work, praising the original film and Howden's work as a director and conveying his confidence in being able to nail the music for such a beloved title.

"I have wanted to score 'Deathgasm' since seeing the first film. I am a huge fan of all of Jason's work. I truly believe I can execute his exact vision for the music for this film. I also already hear the soundtrack in my head. I know we will need vastly varying styles of metal, as well as some orchestral/industrial soundtrack style pieces, and more. It's going to be a blast!"

The scope of the project has scaled up, with a double vinyl release for the film's accompanying soundtrack. The first record will pool various artists for contributions to the soundtrack, while the second record will feature an original score composed by Heafy.

A Kickstarter campaign is currently underway to get the financing needed to complete the film. Complete details, including an introduction from Jason Lei Howden can be found - HERE
