Set to begin one of the most anticipated tours of the year, Turnstile have ramped up the excitement for their Never Enough tour with the wide release of their fresh appearance on NPR's Tiny Desk Concert Series. The set marked the band's technical return to the beloved series, having appeared on the 'At Home' version back in 2022 with a set from drummer Daniel Feng's house complete with a stuffed animal art installation from John Scharbach.
For the latest edition of Turnstile's Tiny Desk, the band compiled a five-song set of essentials from their Album of the Year candidate, Never Enough, to preview the upcoming tour and showcase the band's progressive approach to hardcore. Emphasizing the malleable quality of the music, Turnstile's reimagined renditions of entries like "I CARE," "BIRDS" and the album's title track emphasize the band's ability to extend their reach and pushed the boundaries of hardcore.
Incorporating the piano and even brass as integral instrumentation for the reconfigured songs, the mini-set proved powerfully dynamic with fresh takes on the familiar tracks. Of course no Turnstile set is complete without the band's usual onstage gymnastics, which made for some dramatic highlights from the set including Brandan Yates flipping into the jam-packed office space.
Turnstile's appearance on NPR's Tony Desk precedes the start of their Never Enough tour due to kick off September 15th in Nashville. The run extends through October 19th, wrapping in Orlando, FL. The tour touts special guests Amyl & The Sniffers, Blood Orange, and Mannequin Pussy on select dates with Australian hardcore hitters SPEED and pop progressive Jane Remover taking on the full duration of the run.
