Warbringer Showcase Modern Thrash With New Album, 'Wrath and Ruin'

Watch the band's blistering performance of the first single, "A Better World" with the first preview from the release.

Thrash practitioners Warbringer have announced the due date of their next full length album, Wrath and Ruin. The release will be available on Napalm Records and underscores the band's classic thrash pedigree.

The album marks the follow up to their acclaimed 2020 release, Weapons of Tomorrow and features the oversight of in-demand producer Mark Lewis whose resume includes stellar entries from Cannibal Corpse, Trivium, and The Black Dahlia Murder to name just a few.

In addition to the eight-track thrash masterclass that is Wrath and Ruin, the album will include a BONUS CD which features 15 live versions of fan favorites and live set staples captured during the band's "Ravaging Europe 2023” tour.

Along with the news of the March 14th album arrival, Warbringer have shared the first selection from the project with the single, "A Better World". The track emphasizes the band's classic thrash sound, executed with modernity and impeccable musicianship. In short, the track rips and along with a compelling narrative, the single is a bleak reminder of the reality we are all facing.

Warbringer architect John Kevill explained his headspace in penning the song.

“When I was younger, I used to think the world would only get better during my life. I know now that isn’t the case. We aren’t going to fix the environment even though we know the consequences, because profits would decrease, so it’s not considered possible. On top of that, our societies keep getting more unequal, with a few people owning most everything, and most people just trying to keep their heads above water. We still won’t feed everyone, but we will fund development of weaponized autonomous drones. Etc etc.

I was reading some social theory stuff (Mark Fisher) some years ago and feeling depressed about my own future in these conditions. I went to a therapist and they basically told me it was all real and legitimate, and that all they could do was give me drugs so I could pretend that I didn’t know all this. I don’t really have time to worry too much, because a bunch of bills are always due. I also stopped dreaming for a year or two, which I found scary. I tried to bottle this feeling into ‘A Better World’ - I don’t think I’m the only one."

The album announcement and the reveal of the first single in "A Better World" also features a brand new music video that frames the band's incendiary skill and showmanship.

Kevill spoke about the visual and how the band worked with familiar personnel that best understood Warbringer's strengths. "The video was made by Juan Rodriguez, who we worked with on ‘Crushed Beneath the Tracks’, and shows WARBRINGER going hard - what we do best. The song has a melodic death-tinged riff penned by Adam Carroll, with arrangements by thrash maestro Carlos Cruz. To me, it gives the feeling of being stuck on some accelerated loop that won’t slow down. Hope you guys enjoy the first taste of Wrath And Ruin, there’s a lot more to come!”

Warbringer is also due to hit the road for a length run with Decapitated and Cryptopsy on the Infernal Bloodshed Over Europe 2025 Tour. The run begins May 3rd with an appearance at London's Incineration Fest and concludes June 7th with an appearance in Lyon France at Lions Metal Fest. See the complete list of dates below.
