With a tenure spanning more than two generations, London's East End reached the world over with Oi!/hardcore punk legends, Cock Sparrer. Last month, the band took on the iconic Hollywood Palladium for what would be the band's final two shows in Los Angeles, resulting in two sold out nights with fans looking for one last chance to singalong for a historic farewell.
Feeling the anticipation in the room, the East End legends emerged onstage with the ageless "Riot Squad" and set a precedent for the evening - if this was the last go 'round, it was going to be one for the books. Pairing essentials like "Working" and "Watch Your Back" with entries from last year's Hand On Heart LP with "Mind Your Own Business" and "With My Hand On My Heart," the band maintained a fever pitch from the very beginning of the set that never let up.
One of the most profound moments of the night came when the band barreled into an energized rendition of "Tough Guys" which the band dedicated to Sick of It All frontman Lou Koller, who is currently in the fight of his life battling cancer. The move was one of pure class, as the legends understood their platform and took the opportunity to emphasize the greater community they helped to cultivate for decades. .
Finishing their stage time shifting from stride to gallop, Cock Sparrer closed the show with a trio of punk anthems, charging through "Where Are They Now?" "England Belongs to Me" and the ultimate, "We're Coming Back". Sending a surge through the Palladium, not a single fan in the building stood still as everyone sang along for a fitting farewell that underscored that legends will never die.
