Out in support of their most recent full length, The Shit ov God, Polish extreme metal pillars Behemoth presided over a sold out Hollywood Palladium on the Los Angeles stop of their legendary Godless IV North American campaign.
Assembling an essential line-up of esteemed extreme metal artists, Godless IV brought together the likes of Deicide, Rotting Christ and Immolation - anchoring a bill consisting of the genre's most celebrated and enduring contributors. The magnitude of the bill was punctuated as Nergal and BEHEMOTH unleashed their live fury on a packed house inside the Palladium.
Beginning the live onslaught with "The Shadow Elite," the devastating opener leveled the room and reiterated the kind of blunt force that has long been synonymous with BEHEMOTH. Compiling a comprehensive set that underscored the consistency and durability of the band's catalog, songs like "Conquer All" from 2004's Demigod, worked seamlessly with contemporary cuts like "Nomen Barbarvm" released more than two decades later.
Among the highlights on the night, BEHEMOTH's tribute to Scandinavian black metal architects Bathory included an enthralling rendition of "The Return of Darkness and Evil" - a performance that pummeled the floor while underscoring the legacy that continues to build.
Completing their performance with the dark pageantry of "O Father O Satan O Sun!" from 2014's epic, The Satanist, BEHEMOTH's ability to bridge blasphemy and black metal beauty is a spectacle that positions the collective in a league all their own.
Bolstered by rousing sets from legends in their own right in Deicide, Rotting Christ and Immolation, Godless IV was live sacrilege that showcased extreme music's most powerful, perennial practitioners.
