A decade ago, pioneering frontman Maynard James Keenan marked his 50th birthday with a special one night only engagement at Los Angeles’ famed Greek Theatre dubbed, Cinquanta. The event would become the stuff of rock music legend, featuring a trio of performances from two of his musical iterations in Puscifer and A Perfect Circle with prog rock cohorts Primus also joining the festivities.
Some ten years later, Keenan along with his crew of co-conspirators revived the initial inception of Cinquanta to mark Maynard’s 60th birthday - this time dubbed, Sessanta. Initially launched as a seven-day celebratory jaunt, Sessanta would evolve into a full US tour. The nationwidfe victory lap would again feature the trinity of Primus, Puscifer and mark the live return to the stage for A Perfect Circle for the first time in five years.
Sessanta’s unconventional format featured the trio of bands performing with one another throughout the concert. Each band showcased not only their own distinct set, but also each of the individual players rotated and integrated into one another's sets - creating a truly collaborative celebration all with Maynard James Keenan at the core.
The nightly set saw each band taking on some of their most enduring, beloved entries in addition to the live offering of their E.P.P.P. with selections like "Kindred" from A Perfect Circle, "No Angel" from Puscifer and "Pablo's Hippos" from Primus with a guest assist from Maynard James Keenan of course.
The tour not only emphasized the continued contributions of Keenan, but also spoke to the creative connective tissue that holds strong between the trio of evergreen rock heavy giants. On hand to capture the magic and magnitude of Sessanta, photographer Maurice Nunez framed the production and the powerful performance that will no doubt keep fans anticipating what the next decade might bring.
