Among two of the biggest names in contemporary hardcore, Northern California exports Sunami and Scowl unloaded a walloping combination punch for their first of a pair of coastal co-headlining dates. Taking on the hardcore lore of the Hollywood Palladium Los Angeles and in New York later this fall. On October 22nd, Scowl and Sunami worked up the capacity room into a marathon malee, fans crashing into and cascading over each other for an evening of hardcore release.
For Sunami, the set offered a chance to showcase selections from current split with Pain of Truth in Coast to Coast which arrived earlier this spring. As for Scowl, the band made their debut on Dead Oceans back in April, delivering their acclaimed LP, Are We All Angels, further solidifying their rank among contemporary hardcore.
Offering a healthy indication of not only the strong appetite but the healthy acumen of the SoCal hardcore fan, the Palladium was spilling over with energy from the start of the early show, through the final minutes of the presentation. With well received opening sets from Nuovo Testamento, Midrift, Big Boy and Bangkok evilcore sensation Whispers, the evening skipped the lulls and leveraged non-stop action throughout - suggesting the pulse of hardcore is thriving even beyond it's headliners.
