Blumhouse Offers Up a First Teaser for Their 'Wolf Man' Reboot

- By Nicolas Delgadillo

The co-creator of the 'Saw' and 'Insidious' franchises and director of 'Upgrade' and 'The Invisible Man' unleashes a new take on a classic movie monster

Filmmaker Leigh Whannell is a well-respected name around the horror movie industry, helping create several 21st century classics under his belt like Saw and Insidious, as well as directing the action-packed Upgrade and 2020's fantastic reimagining of The Invisible Man.

Whannell returns to the forefront of modern horror retellings once again with his take on another classic Universal Monster: The Wolf Man. The creature came to cinematic life in 1941 with the original The Wolf Man directed George Waggner and starring Lon Chaney Jr., forever influencing the depictions of werewolves across popular media.

After an Oscar-winning remake in 2010 directed by Joe Johnston and starring Benicio del Toro, Universal Pictures is set to have another go at the beloved property alongside Jason Blum's Blumhouse banner. Whannell directs, writes, and executive produces this upcoming reboot, and the 2025 film just got its first poster, synopsis, and teaser trailer.

"What if someone you loved became something else? Christopher Abbott (Poor Things, It Comes at Night) stars as Blake, a San Francisco husband and father, who inherits his remote childhood home in rural Oregon after his own father vanishes and is presumed dead. With his marriage to his high-powered wife, Charlotte (Julia Garner; Ozark, Inventing Anna), fraying, Blake persuades Charlotte to take a break from the city and visit the property with their young daughter, Ginger (Matlida Firth; Hullraisers, Coma).

But as the family approaches the farmhouse in the dead of night, they’re attacked by an unseen animal and, in a desperate escape, barricade themselves inside the home as the creature prowls the perimeter. As the night stretches on, however, Blake begins to behave strangely, transforming into something unrecognizable, and Charlotte will be forced to decide whether the terror within their house is more lethal than the danger without."

'Wolf Man' will premiere in theaters January 17th, 2025.
