Osgood "Oz" Perkins has been around Hollywood his entire life, with specific ties to the horror genre, but it only feels like just recently that his name is being heard everywhere. His latest film, Longlegs, has become a sensation for its lead performances and unsettling, dread-inducing atmosphere, not to mention a hit for its distributor, Neon.
So it's no surprise that Neon is teaming up with Perkins once again for a new horror movie, this time along with none other than esteemed producer James Wan. They've teamed up for an adaptation of one of Stephen King's oldest tales, The Monkey. You know those classically creepy looking toy monkeys that smash cymbals together? That's the one.
The film follows twin brothers Hal and Bill (Theo James in a dual performance), who discover their father’s old monkey toy in the attic. When a series of gruesome deaths start occurring all around them, the siblings begin to suspect that the antique toy might be terribly cursed.
The Monkey also stars Tatiana Maslany, Elijah Wood, Colin O'Brien, Rohan Campbell, and Sarah Levy. Neon just dropped the very first look at the upcoming movie with a teaser trailer. It's set to hit theaters next year on February 21st.
