Coming Attractions: Movies to Look Forward to in December 2024

This holiday season is set to deliver plenty of big screen thrills and chills, from Robert Eggers' remake of Nosferatu to Keanu Reeve's take on Shadow on Hedgehog

'Y2K' December 6th (Theaters)

In the latest movie from comedian and filmmaker Kyle Mooney, the phenomenon of Y2K becomes a terrifying reality on the last night of 1999. Two high school juniors (It star Jaeden Martell & Deadpool 2 star Julian Dennison) crash a New Year's Eve party, only to find themselves fighting for their lives when all technology comes to life.

'The Order' December 6th (Theaters)

Based on a true story from the 1980s, an alarming surge in violent bombings and bank robberies in the Pacific Northwest leads weathered FBI agent Terry Husk (Jude Law) into a deadly cat-and-mouse game with a charismatic domestic terrorist (Nicholas Hoult) plotting to overthrow the US government.

'Nightbitch' December 6th (Theaters)

In this surrealist black comedy, Amy Adams stars as a woman thrown into the stay-at-home routine of raising a toddler in the suburbs. She slowly embraces the feral power deeply rooted in motherhood, as she becomes increasingly aware of the bizarre and undeniable signs that she may be turning into...a dog. Director Marielle Heller (A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, Can You Ever Forgive Me?) returns to the big screen with her strangest film yet - one that's too weird to miss.

 

'Kraven the Hunter' December 12th (Theaters)

Kraven the Hunter is the visceral, action-packed origin story of how and why one of Marvel's most iconic villains came to be. Aaron Taylor-Johnson plays Kraven, a man whose complex relationship with his ruthless father, Nikolai Kravinoff (Russell Crowe), starts him down a path of vengeance with brutal consequences, motivating him to become not only the greatest hunter in the world, but also one of its most feared.

'The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim' December 12th (Theaters)

Set 183 years before the events chronicled in the original trilogy of films, The War of the Rohirrim tells the fate of the House of Helm Hammerhand (Brian Cox), the legendary King of Rohan. A sudden attack by Wulf (Luke Pasqualino), a clever and ruthless Dunlending lord seeking vengeance for the death of his father, forces Helm and his people to make a daring last stand in the ancient stronghold of the Hornburg - a mighty fortress that will later come to be known as Helm’s Deep. Finding herself in an increasingly desperate situation, Héra (Gaia Wise), the daughter of Helm, must summon the will to lead the resistance against a deadly enemy intent on their total destruction.

'Sonic the Hedgehog 3' December 20th (Theaters)

In a landmark moment for nu metal, Sonic the Hedgehog returns to the big screen this holiday season in his most thrilling adventure yet. Sonic (Ben Schwartz), Knuckles (Idris Elba), and Tails (Colleen O'Shaughnessey) reunite against a powerful new adversary, Shadow (Keanu Reeves), a mysterious villain with powers unlike anything they have faced before. With their abilities outmatched in every way, Team Sonic must seek out an unlikely alliance in hopes of stopping Shadow and protecting the planet.

'Mufasa: The Lion King' December 20th (Theaters)

Exploring the unlikely rise of the beloved king of the Pride Lands and told in flashbacks, this story introduces Mufasa (Aaron Pierre) as an orphaned cub, lost and alone until he meets a sympathetic lion named Taka (Kelvin Harrison Jr.) - the heir to a royal bloodline. The chance meeting sets in motion an expansive journey of an extraordinary group of misfits searching for their destiny - their bonds will be tested as they work together to evade a threatening and deadly foe.

'Babygirl' December 25th (Theaters)

In this explosive erotic thriller, a high-powered CEO (Nicole Kidman) puts her career and family on the line when she begins a torrid affair with a much younger intern (Harris Dickinson). This is the latest film from writer and director Halina Reijn, who was behind 2022's excellent whodunit slasher Bodies Bodies Bodies.

'A Complete Unknown' December 25th (Theaters)

Set in the influential New York music scene of the early 60s, A Complete Unknown follows 19-year-old Minnesota musician Bob Dylan’s (Timothée Chalamet) meteoric rise as a folk singer to concert halls and the top of the charts – his songs and mystique becoming a worldwide sensation – culminating in his groundbreaking electric rock and roll performance at the Newport Folk Festival in 1965.

'Nosferatu' December 25th (Theaters)

Robert Eggers (The Witch, The LighthouseThe Northman) returns with a bold psychosexual remake of a classic horror film. Nosferatu is a gothic tale of obsession between a haunted young woman (Lily-Rose Depp) and the terrifying vampire (Bill Skarsgard) infatuated with her, causing untold horror in its wake.
