In the fall of 2022, filmmaker Parker Finn made an exceptional splash at the movies with his feature debut, Smile. Backed by creepy trailers and an inventive marketing campaign, the moderately-budgeted horror flick became a surprise smash hit, raking in serious box office cash and the adoration of scary movie lovers.
The film followed therapist Rose Cotter (Sosie Bacon) as she attempts to fend off a deadly and terrifying supernatural curse. Rose begins to see various entities smiling directly at her in very unsettling ways, a sign that apparently guarantees an imminent and gruesome death. Thanks to Finn's masterful direction and Bacon's exceptional performance, the film delivered big time on its promised horror thrills and became on one of the very best efforts of the year.
The runaway success of Smile made a sequel feel inevitable, and thankfully Finn is returning as both writer and director to make it happen. Smile 2 is scheduled to hit theaters this October courtesy of Paramount Pictures, and the studio has just released the first trailer for the highly anticipated film.
In this follow-up, Naomi Scott (Power Rangers, Aladdin, Charlie's Angels) stars as Skye Riley, a pop music sensation in the middle of a world tour who becomes the next victim to the dreaded smiling curse. As she attempts to go on with the show despite witnessing horrific events, her sanity begins to slip as pressures mount from all sides.
Smile 2 will also feature Kyle Gallner reprising his role of Joel from the first film, as well Lukas Gage, Rosemarie DeWitt, Dylan Gelula, and more. Are you looking forward to this bigger sequel for the Smile universe? Check out the trailer below.
