Screen Crusades: Weekly Streaming Guide 12.1.23

- By Nicolas Delgadillo

December kicks off with a new Christmas slasher and plenty more across streaming this week.

NOW STREAMING;

‘It’s a Wonderful Knife’ (Shudder)

A year after saving her town from a psychotic killer on Christmas Eve, Winnie Carruthers’ life is less than wonderful — but when she wishes she’d never been born, she finds herself in a nightmare parallel universe and discovers that without her, things could be much, much worse. Now the killer is back, and she must team up with the town misfit to identify the killer and get back to her own reality.

‘May December’ (Netflix)

Twenty years after their notorious tabloid romance, a married couple buckle under the pressure when a Hollywood actress meets them to do research for a film about their past.

‘Aqua Teen Hunger Force (Season 12)’ (Max)

A trio of fast-food items works to solve mysteries in this long-running edgy adult cartoon. The brains of the group is Frylock, a floating box of fries, but Master Shake does a lot of the talking, most of it aimed at making life miserable for Meatwad, a sweet-natured ball of meat.

‘Sweet Home (Season 2)’ (Netflix)

The stakes are higher than ever as the line between monster and human begins to blur. Can Hyun-su and the other survivors fight to stay alive?

‘Slow Horses (Season 3)’ (Apple TV+)

In season three, a romantic liaison in Istanbul threatens to expose a buried MI5 secret in London. When Jackson Lamb (Gary Oldman) and his team of misfits are dragged into the fight, they find themselves caught in a conspiracy that threatens the future not just of Slough House but of MI5 itself.

‘School Spirits’ (Paramount+)

Maddie is a teen girl stuck in the afterlife investigating her own mysterious disappearance; she goes on a crime-solving journey as she adjusts to school in the afterlife, but the closer she gets to the truth, the more secrets and lies she discovers.

‘Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny’ (Disney+)

Harrison Ford returns to the role of the legendary hero archaeologist for this highly anticipated final installment of the iconic franchise – a big, globe-trotting, rip-roaring cinematic adventure. Thrust again into a challenge that tests his strength, as well as his patience, Indiana Jones (Ford) risks everything to keep an ancient dial that could change the course of history from those who want the device for their own personal gain.

‘The Eric Andre Show (Season 6)’ (Hulu)

Comic Eric André hosts a late-night show that parodies low-budget public-access programs and brings the talk genre to another level -- not in a good way.

‘A Good Person’ (Prime Video)

Allison (Florence Pugh) is a young woman with a bright future - a wonderful fiancé, a blossoming career, and supportive family and friends. But her world crumbles in the blink of an eye when she survives an unimaginable tragedy and emerges from recovery with an opioid addiction and unresolved grief. In the following years, it is the unlikely friendship she forms with her would-be father-in-law (Morgan Freeman) that gives her a fighting chance to put herself back together and move forward with her life.

‘Doctor Who: The Star Beast’ (Disney+)

The Doctor is caught in a fight to the death as a spaceship crash-lands in London. But as the battle wreaks havoc, destiny is converging on the Doctor's old friend, Donna.

CONTINUED WEEKLY EPISODES:

‘30 Coins (Season 2)’ (Max)

Father Vergara, an exorcist, boxer and ex-convict exiled to a remote town in Spain, enlists the help of the mayor and a veterinarian when a series of paranormal phenomena begins to occur. In season 2, a new enemy feared by even the devil himself will put the world at risk. The first six episodes are now streaming.

‘The Boulet Brothers’ Dragula (Season 5)’ (Shudder)

The Boulet Brothers host a competition - featuring morbid themes and dark challenges - for nine drag performers, looking to find the world's finest drag supermonster. The first five episodes are now streaming.

‘For All Mankind (Season 4)’ (Apple TV+)

The new season explores the Mars colonization in 2003, where former adversaries collaborate on asteroid mining, offering hope for Earth and Mars. However, growing tensions within the international base jeopardize their ambitious goals, adding drama to the space program's future. The first four episodes are now streaming.

‘Rap Sh!t (Season 2)’ (Max)

As Mia, Shawna and Chastity navigate new stages and audiences, they learn that fame and notoriety don't change origin stories or past traumas. Dreams can come true, but they can also unearth nightmares. The first five episodes are now streaming.

‘Monarch: Legacy of Monsters’ (Apple TV+)

Following the thunderous battle between Godzilla and the Titans that leveled San Francisco, and the shocking revelation that monsters are real, “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” tracks two siblings following in their father’s footsteps to uncover their family’s connection to the secretive organization known as Monarch. The first four episodes are now streaming.

So I’ve dug deep into my own personal preferences to give you some daily theme prompts to help...
