Damien Leone's blood-soaked Terrifier franchise has been an astounding tale of indie cinema. Starting with the introduction of the murderous Art the Clown in the anthology film All Hallows' Eve, the character went on to become an underground icon of the horror scene thanks to the depravity of Art's first standalone movie, 2016's Terrifier.
Word of mouth, crowd funding, and the drive and passion of Leone himself all led to the over 2-hour epic of Terrifier 2 crashing into theaters in 2022 - and solidified it as a franchise that was here to stay. The film raked in millions at the box office while being made for a fraction of the cost, creating a phenomenon for horror and Hollywood in general.
Terrifier 3 was always going to happen, and now that it's finally arrived, it's made quite the statement. With an impressive opening weekend haul of over $18 million at theaters across the nation, Terrifier 3 has beaten out a wide array of film competition to become number one. Oscar-buzzy Donald Trump drama The Apprentice, the animated John Legend film Piece by Piece, the latest My Hero Academia movie, and even DC's Joker: Folie a Deux all fell behind the indie slasher flick.
Perhaps we can thank Ice Nine Kills for some of that box office dough, as their tie-in track for the movie, 'A Work of Art', has already become a cult hit with fans of both the band and the movie.
The film features David Howard Thornton starring as Art the Clown once again, alongside the return of Lauren LaVera as survivor Sienna Shaw and Elliot Fullam as her younger brother Jonathan. Set during the Christmas season years after Art's defeat at the hands of Sienna, Art comes back for revenge alongside his new partner-in-crime, Victoria Heyes. Played by Samantha Scaffidi with truly scary efficiency, Victoria is a former victim of the evil clown that is now an undead, mutilated accomplice to his massacres. She's easily the most horrifying part of the new film.
Terrifier 3 is now playing in theaters with plans for a fourth installment well underway. What did you think of the latest entry in the Terrifier franchise? Did it satisfy your bloodlust and are you excited for more murderous mayhem in the future?
