‘The Batman’ March 4th (Theaters)
One of the most anticipated releases of 2022 is the latest reboot of DC’s best superhero, the one and only dark knight himself, Batman. The new film will feature a younger version of the masked vigilante – played by Robert Pattinson – in only his second year of crime fighting as he takes on the criminal underworld of Gotham City. The Batman is directed by Matt Reeves, who also wrote the script alongside Peter Craig (The Town, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Bad Boys for Life). Reeves is best known for game changing movies like Cloverfield, 2010’s Let Me In, and the final two installments of the recent Planet of the Apes trilogy. Pattinson will be fighting alongside Zoë Kravitz, who stars as Selina Kyle AKA Catwoman, as the two foster a romantic relationship during their nighttime crusades of justice. The two are in pursuit of the Riddler (Paul Dano), a serial killer who livestreams his crimes and leaves cryptic messages behind. An almost unrecognizable Colin Farrell also stars in the film as Oswald Cobblepot, AKA the Penguin, along with Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon and Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth.
‘After Yang’ March 4th (Theaters and Showtime)
From Kogonada, the acclaimed Korean filmmaker behind 2017’s Columbus, After Yang is based on the short story “Saying Goodbye to Yang” by Alexander Weinstein. When his young daughter’s beloved companion - an android named Yang - malfunctions, Jake (Colin Farrell) searches for a way to repair him. In the process, Jake discovers the life that has been passing in front of him, reconnecting with his wife (Jodie Turner-Smith) and daughter across a distance he didn’t know was there.” Justin H. Min, Malea Emma Tjandrawidjaja, Sarita Choudhury, Clifton Collins Jr. and Haley Lu Richardson also star.
‘The Seed’ March 10th (Shudder)
In The Seed, lifelong friends Deidre (Lucy Martin, Vikings), Heather (Sophie Vavasseur, Resident Evil: Apocalypse), and Charlotte (Chelsea Edge, I Hate Suzie) are finally getting some time away together, using the upcoming meteor shower to gather more followers for their social media channels. But what starts out as a girls’ getaway in the Mojave Desert descends into a battle for survival with the arrival of an invasive alien force whose air of mystery soon proves to be alluring and irresistible to them. Before long the situation devolves into a battle to the death, where the stakes have galaxy-wide implications. Written and directed by Sam Walker.
‘The Adam Project’ March 11th (Netflix)
The latest from filmmaker Shawn Levy (Free Guy, Stranger Things), this science fiction adventure stars Ryan Reynolds as a time-traveling fighter pilot named Adam Reed. After crash landing in 2022, he teams up with his 12-year-old self (Walker Scobell) on a mission to save the future. The film also stars Mark Ruffalo, Jennifer Garner, Catherine Keener, Zoe Saldaña, and Alex Mallari Jr.
‘Offseason’ March 11th (Theaters and VOD)
Writer-director Mickey Keating's horror film Offseason follows Marie (Jocelin Donahue), a woman who, upon receiving a mysterious letter that her mother's grave site has been vandalized, quickly returns to the isolated offshore island where her late mother is buried. When she arrives, she discovers that the island is closing for the offseason with the bridges raised until spring, leaving her stranded. One strange interaction with the local townspeople after another, Marie soon realizes that something is not quite right in this small town. She must unveil the mystery behind her mother's troubled past in order to make it out alive.
‘X’ March 18th (Theaters)
The latest from celebrated horror writer and director Ti West, X stars Brittany Snow (Prom Night) alongside Mia Goth (Suspiria), Kid Cudi (Creepshow), Martin Henderson (The Ring), Owen Campbell (Super Dark Times), Stephen Ure (Deathgasm), and Scream‘s Jenna Ortega. The film takes place at a secluded farmhouse out in rural Texas, where a group of young filmmakers arrive to attempt to shoot an adult film. The reclusive elderly couple that acts as their hosts take a special interest in their guests and their work, but when the true nature of the film shoot is discovered, things turn catastrophically violent and the cast and crew are thrown into a fight for their lives. It draws obvious comparisons to films like The Texas Chain Saw Massacre but also contains so much more – as is par for the course for an arthouse studio like A24.
‘The Outfit’ March 18th (Theaters)
From Graham Moore, the Academy Award-winning writer of The Imitation Game, comes The Outfit, a gripping and masterful thriller. Leonard (Mark Rylance), a master English tailor who's ended up in Chicago, operates a corner tailor shop with his assistant (Zoey Deutch) where he makes beautiful clothes for the only people around who can afford them: a family of vicious gangsters. One night, two killers (Dylan O'Brien, Johnny Flynn) knock on his door in need of a favor - And Leonard is thrust onto the board in a deadly game of deception and murder.
‘The Spine of Night’ March 24th (Shudder)
This epic animated fantasy tale, about the history of a land that never was, begins when an ambitious young man steals forbidden knowledge from a sacred plant. He falls to its darker temptations and in so doing, unleashes ages of suffering onto mankind. As his power grows over the years, it falls to people of different ilk and culture to attempt to stop him. Among those who stand against him are a daring tomb-robber, star-crossed lovers, a maniacal necromancer, winged assassins, and an undying guardian. Featuring the voices of Richard E. Grant, Lucy Lawless, Patton Oswalt, Betty Gabriel and Joe Manganiello.
‘The Lost City’ March 25th (Theaters)
Brilliant, but reclusive author Loretta Sage (Sandra Bullock) has spent her career writing about exotic places in her popular romance-adventure novels featuring handsome cover model Alan (Channing Tatum), who has dedicated his life to embodying the hero character, “Dash.” While on tour promoting her new book with Alan, Loretta is kidnapped by an eccentric billionaire (Daniel Radcliffe) who hopes that she can lead him to the ancient lost city’s treasure from her latest story. Wanting to prove that he can be a hero in real life and not just on the pages of her books, Alan sets off to rescue her. Thrust into an epic jungle adventure, the unlikely pair will need to work together to survive the elements and find the ancient treasure before it’s lost forever.
‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’ March 25th (Theaters)
Another banger from the house of A24, Everything Everywhere All at Once is the latest film from Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert (Swiss Army Man). Michelle Yeoh plays Evelyn Wang, an exhausted Chinese American woman who can’t seem to finish her taxes, but more than that, Evelyn is also a being who exists across infinite multiverses, and she’ll be torn out of one life and forced into others with the aim of saving the world. It co-stars Stephanie Hsu (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), Ke Huy Quan (The Goonies), James Hong (Big Trouble in Little China), Jenny Slate (Obvious Child), and Jamie Lee Curtis (Halloween). This interdimensional action flick is gonna melt minds.
