‘Pig’ (Hulu)

This unexpected Nicolas Cage movie - written and directed by Michael Sarnoski in an astounding debut - sees the always fascinating actor playing a hermit named Rob living out in the woods with only his beloved pig for company. But when Rob is attacked in the middle of the night and his pig is stolen, he must venture deep into the city to find her and get her back. What initially comes across as a John Wick-like action vehicle for Cage turns into something else entirely; an incredibly moving and constantly surprising film that’s one of the very best of the entire year.

‘The Strings’ (Shudder)

In the dead of winter, Catherine (Teagan Johnston), a talented musician who, having recently broken up her successful band, travels to her aunt's remote coastal cottage to work on new material in solitude. Once there, she and local photographer Grace (Jenna Schaefer) spark up a budding romance while visiting an abandoned farmhouse with a disturbing past. Soon after, strange and seemingly supernatural occurrences begin to manifest at the cottage, escalating each night and dangerously eroding Catherine's sense of reality.

The directing debut of superstar Halle Berry, Bruised is the story of Jackie Justice (Halle Berry) is a mixed martial arts fighter who leaves the sport in disgrace. Down on her luck and simmering with rage and regret years after her last fight, she’s coaxed into a brutal underground fight by her manager and boyfriend Desi (Adan Canto) and grabs the attention of a fight league promoter (Shamier Anderson) who promises Jackie a life back in the octagon. But the road to redemption becomes unexpectedly personal when Manny (Danny Boyd, Jr.) — the son she gave up as an infant — shows up at her doorstep.

‘Hanna (Season 3)’ (Amazon Prime Video)

Based on the 2011 film of the same name, The third season of Hanna continues the journey of an extraordinary young woman, played by Esmé Creed-Miles, who was created by the sinister organization Utrax and trained to be an assassin. Hanna (Creed-Miles) is now secretly trying to destroy Utrax from the inside and free herself from its grasp with the help of her previous nemesis, former-CIA agent Marissa Wiegler (Mireille Enos). Together they have coerced high-ranking Utrax agent John Carmichael (Dermot Mulroney) into aiding their mission, but her fellow young assassins, Sandy (Áine Rose Daly) and Jules (Gianna Kiehl), as well as new foes are starting to suspect Hanna’s plot. As Hanna moves closer to her goal, she begins to uncover not only a world-changing agenda but the true power behind Utrax that stands between her and freedom.

‘Masters of the Universe: Revelation (Season 1 – Part 2)’ (Netflix)

The Power returns in this animated series from none other than Kevin Smith, who has revived He-Man in a new imagining of the classic show that serves as a direct sequel to the original 1983 cartoon. The Guardians of Grayskull face Skeletor in a final showdown that changes Eternia forever. It’s sure to satisfy old fans and bring in new ones as well, and with a booming score from Bear McCreary, it feels massive in scale. The second part to the series’ first season is now streaming.

‘The Beatles: Get Back’ (Disney+)

From legendary filmmaker Peter Jackson, this documentary takes audiences back in time to the band’s January 1969 recording sessions, which became a pivotal moment in music history. The docuseries showcases The Beatles’ creative process as they attempt to write 14 new songs in preparation for their first live concert in over two years. Faced with a nearly impossible deadline, the strong bonds of friendship shared by John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr are put to the test. The docuseries is compiled from nearly 60 hours of unseen footage shot over 21 days, directed by Michael Lindsay-Hogg in 1969, and from more than 150 hours of unheard audio, most of which has been locked in a vault for over half a century.

‘Succession’ (HBO Max)

HBO has knocked it out of the park once again with Succession, a show that tracks the lives of the Roy family as they contemplate their future once their aging father (Brian Cox) begins to step back from the media and entertainment conglomerate they control. The first two seasons of the series quickly garnered praise for being one of the best new shows on television and has been showered with awards. The third miraculously looks like it’s only getting better as the Roys continue to vie for their father’s assets. The first six episodes of the new season are now streaming.
