A24 has quickly proven itself time and time again to be a modern titan of the entertainment industry. The production and distribution studio is who talent - be it directors, actors, or writers - is clamoring to work with, thanks to a string of acclaimed hits both on the big and small screen. Just this year at the 95th Academy Awards, A24 made history as they became the first independent studio to win Best Picture, Best Director, and all four acting categories in a single year.
The studio has a strong track record when it comes to horror, known for churning out modern favorites like Under the Skin, The Witch, Green Room, It Comes at Night, Hereditary, Midsommar, X, Pearl, Men, and the upcoming third film from Ari Aster, Beau is Afraid. This summer, A24 is bringing a slice of the Australian horror scene to theaters with Talk to Me, directed by YouTube sensations Danny and Michael Philippou, otherwise known as RackaRacka.
Their channel is known for their horror videos that toss comedy into the mix without ever losing their intensity. Talk to Me is the twin brothers' first feature-length project and was produced by Causeway Films, who also made The Babadook. After successful screenings at the Adelaide and Sundance Film Festivals, A24 was quick to pick it up for a wide release. Early reviews from critics has been overwhelming positive, with many calling it shockingly violent and genuinely terrifying. It holds a massive 97% on Rotten Tomatoes as of this time.
The synopsis reads: "When a group of friends discover how to conjure spirits using an embalmed hand, they become hooked on the new thrill, until one of them goes too far and unleashes terrifying supernatural forces." It stars Sophie Wilde (You Don’t Know Me), Alexandra Jensen (Joe vs. Carole), Joe Bird (First Bird) and Miranda Otto (The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King). 'Talk to Me' releases in theaters on July 28th this year.
