The man behind the kit for bands like Mr. Bungle, Dead Cross, Suicidal Tendencies, and The Original Misfits scores another achievement in scoring his first ever film.

As the former Slayer drummer and current pace-keeper for outfits like Mr. Bungle, Dead Cross, Suicidal Tendencies, and The Original Misfits, Dave Lombardo is adding yet another major accomplishment to his storied professional career.

The drummer will now see the release of the first feature length film that he scored the music for. Set to begin streaming on-demand this month, Los Últimos Frikis documents the life and times of underground Cuban metal band Zeus and the band's especially gritty frontman Diony Arce.

The Nicholas Brennan-directed rock doc first premiered back in 2019 and since then has been exploring a wider release. Connecting with the non-profit group First Look Media, the film will begin streaming on-demand the month via the group's streaming platform, Topic. For the month of September, the film will also be streaming via Vimeo.

The highly personal project for Lombardo features the drummer in the role of composer, tasked with creating original music that not only compliments the film, but also, showcases his his heritage. It's an endeavor Lombardo was enthusiastic to begin.

"I have always wanted to score a film," said Lombardo. "It's been a goal of mine for many years now. When Nick told me his vision for this documentary, I was immediately intrigued by the story because it could have been mine. When he asked me to score the film, I didn't hesitate to accept."

The Cuban-American drummer emphasizes his connection to the project by adding that the film,"couldn't have been a more perfect match for my debut at a new form of musical expression. I have been on a path of making music solely for myself and various bands for 37 years. This is for the people of my birthplace. This is for my blood and for healing."
