The annual gathering at Clisson celebrated it's first weekend back post-pandemic and the atmosphere was nothing short of jovial. With sets from Deftones, Megadeth, Ghost, Gojira, Korn, Judas Priest, Mastodon, Opeth, Five Finger Death Punch, Jinjer, Down and many more, heading the two-weekend 350-band plus assembly, heavy culture was on full display in what was one of the largest international gatherings of the year in our space.
With weekend two set to begin on June 23rd, Hellfest organizers have announced a special tribute to one of the culture's most celebrated champions. Erecting a massive statue of the Motörhead founder, Hellfest will host a special closing ceremony following Scorpions June 23rd mainstage headlining set to pay tribute to icon. Doubling as metal's version of a mausoleum, the statue enshrines a portion of Lemmy's ashes and will be properly unveiled by Lemmy's band mates Phil Campbell and Mikkey Dee via a ceremonial toast with Hellfest attendees.
Living up to the hashtag #LemmyLivesAtHellfest the memorial underscores the rock music hero's longtime connection to the festival, with Motörhead having played the very first edition of the gathering and having become a fixture since. The memorial will become a landmark of the festival grounds, serving as a gathering point for the international congregation of heavy music fans for all Hellfests to come.
