The acclaimed musician will be producing a new original feature with the South Park creators
Modern music mastermind Kendrick Lamar is taking his production company pgLang, with business partner Dave Free, to the next level by producing a feature length film with none other than South Park duo Matt Stone and Trey Parker. The live-action comedy will be distributed by Paramount Pictures and begins production this spring.
Written by Vernon Chatman, the official press statement declares that the untitled film “will depict the past and present coming to a head when a young Black man who is interning as a slave reenactor at a living history museum, discovers that his white girlfriend’s ancestors once owned his”. Sounds perfect for some topical and touchy comedy that isn’t afraid to push the boundaries.
Chatman has been a writer and producer on South Park for many years and created his own series with Adult Swim’s The Shivering Truth, as well as co-created the cult series Wonder Showzen, Xavier: Renegade Angel, Trigger Warning With Killer Mike and Doggie Fizzle Televizzle With Snoop Dogg.
Stone and Parker released two films on Paramount+ last year, South Park: Post Covid and South Park: Post Covid: The Return of Covid, and have struck a deal to keep producing more South Park content for quite a while. This upcoming project with Lamar will be their first since Team America: World Police to not involve their flagship animated series.
