The first film authorized by the artist's estate will feature appearances from the likes of Rob Halford and Jack Black.

Following the celebrated release of Dio's autobiography, titled 'Rainbow In The Dark: The Autobiography', last July, news of the long-awaited, closely veiled documentary film that has been in the works for years has now surfaced.

Dio's widow and longtime business manager Wendy Dio granted an interview with Argentinian journalist Lucas Gordan in which the two discussed the details of the first fully authorized documentary - given the ultimate blessing from the estate of heavy metal pillar.

The film which is executive produced and financed by BMG was confirmed by Wendy Dio in an early interview with radio station WSOU to have interview appearances from the likes of Jack Black, Rob Halford, Tony Iommi, Lita Ford, Geezer Butler as well as bandmates Doug Aldrich and Jeff Pilson.

In her most recent discussion regarding the film, Wendy Dio told Gordon her initial reaction to the film after having watched a cut of the comprehensive, career-spanning documentary. Dio also shared that the film would premiere later this year. Wendy explained,

"It was very emotional. It's very different from . 'Cause the book finishes in 1986, with Ronnie playing Madison Square Garden. But the documentary goes all the way through his life till the end. And it was very emotional. I was watching it with my publicist and a person from BMG, who are funding the documentary. And we all cried. It was very emotional. But it's really interesting and really good."

Dio continued, "Eddie Trunk and Mick Wall both kind of narrated it and everything. I'm very pleased with it. I don't know exactly when it's gonna come out year, but it'll be out year."
