The film will be directed by filmmaker-photographer Sam Jones and will chronicle the life and legacy of skateboarding living legend.

According to a report filed by Variety, skateboarding culture and lifestyle ambassador Tony Hawk will be the focus of a major feature length documentary film from ICM Partners.

The film will be produced by the Duplass Brothers whose production credits include documentaries like Evil Genius: The True Story of America's Most Diabolical Bank Heist, The Netflix hit Wild Wild Country, and the 2021 HBO miniseries, The Lady and The Dale. Tapped to serve as the director of the project is filmmaker Sam Jones whose credits include I Am Trying to Break Your Heart and Lost Songs: The Basement Tapes Continued.

The feature length documentary will be the second collaboration between Jones and Hawk, with the skater previously appearing in Jones' interview-driven television series, “Off Camera with Sam Jones.” Speaking on the progress of the film to Variety, Hawk shared, “We have already shot everything for it, it’s just in the editing process. I definitely wanted to give them as much footage and interview as possible.”

Just last month, Tony Hawk, at 53 years young, competed in his first X Games Vert Best Trick competition since 2003. The story making event further solidified his rank as the sport's most respected champion.

Outside of his continued presence as a skater, Hawk's legacy as a pillar in the video game universe remains undeniable. The revival of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 managed to tally more than a million copies in sales in just the first month of its release last September. Hawk's more than twenty year reign as fixture in gaming was the focus of Ludvig Gür’s documentary “Pretending I’m Superman: The Tony Hawk Video Game Story.” The film's worldwide rights were recently secured by Wood Entertainment and is expected to release soon.

As for the details regarding the eventual release of Hawk's documentary in collaboration with Jones and the Duplass Brothers - there is no additional information as of yet. Variety reports that the film is expected to make the fall film festival rounds and likely see a wider release sometime in 2022.
