Turnstile takes on NPR’s Tiny Desk with an intimate performance from home

The Baltimore standouts delivered a 17-minute set of stripped down gems from their universally-acclaimed 2021 LP, Glow On.

Last month, Turnstile made headlines by making their national network television debut with a searing appearance on Late Night with Seth Myers. Now, the hardcore champions are again broaching another major accomplishment with an appearance on NPR’s Tony Desk Concert performance series.

Ahead of the band’s upcoming Turnstile Love Connection Tour that kicks off later this spring with Citizen, Ceremony, Ekulu, Truth Cult, and Coco & Clair Clair, Turnstile showcased an intimate performance of essentials from their universally-lauded 2021 full length, Glow On.

Flexing a bit of restraint, the band managed to harness the same energy of their infamously combustible stage show with a set that saw reimagined renditions of songs intended to fire up the floor. Taking on “Endless,” “Underwater Boi,” “Blackout, “Don’t Play,” “Mystery,” “T.L.C. (Turnstile Love Connection,” and “Alien Love Call,” Turnstile asserted real versatility with the kind of set that underscored the substance that sparks the spectacle.

Rather than film the performance in the NPR Tiny Desk Studios, the band captured the set from Daniel Feng’s house and enlisted John Scharbach to create a Stuffed Animal art installation entitled “Alien Love Response” that served as a colorful background for the band’s wildly entertaining set.
