The campaign for the landmark album Opvs Contra Natvram begins with the unveiling of sweeping music video directed by Zuzanna Plisz.
Currently on their cross country march opposite Arch Enemy on the North American Siege Tour, the extreme metal horde of Behemoth have confirmed the September 16th arrival date of their landmark 12th full length studio album, Opvs Contra Natvram.
The self-produced effort again saw the band enlist Joe Barresi (Nine Inch Nails, Tool, QOTSA, Alice in Chains) to handle the final mix for an album composed during an especially unique time for Behemoth. For the first time in nearly the three decade reign of the band’s dominance, Adam “Nergal” Darski and his team of cohorts had the ability to work without the weight of looming deadlines. This afforded an amplified level of detail that has become synonymous with the band’s overall presentation.
Underscoring the band’s creative commitment to unrestrained self-expression, personal accountability and progressive thinking, Opvs Contra Natvram serves as a 10-track confrontational discourse. Coupled with the band’s instrumental prowess, the album reiterates Behemoth’s rank as pillars of the culture and proven practitioners of their craft.
Among extreme music’s most articulate frontmen, Nergal detailed the substantive foundation of Behemoth’s most recent manifesto and how the album is equal parts confrontation and call to action. “The album title means going against the current,” Nergal explains.
“It’s the negative of the values and morals and ethics that I stand against. I’ve seriously been wrestling with destructive tendencies in pop culture — cancel culture, social media, and tools which I feel are very dangerous weapons in the hands of people who are not competent to judge others. That’s something which I find very destructive and disturbing — and extremely limiting coming from an artists’ perspective. This is my middle finger to that. There’s a song on the record called ‘Neo-Spartacvs.’ Spartacus was one of the most iconic rebels in history who went against the most powerful empire of all time. In the end, it’s me screaming, ‘I Am Spartacus, and so are you!’ I want to spark that flame of rebellion. If something seems wrong then stand up to it!”
Serving as the introductory single for the album, “Ov My Herculean Exile” showcases the raw power that is signature Behemoth. Paired with a stunning, sinister visual directed by Zuzanna Plisz, the single establishes a precedent for what promises to be a monumental full length campaign for one of extreme music’s proven champions.
Opvs Contra Natvram features both black and white versions of cover art and will be available in a variety of physical formats. The album’s detailed artwork was designed by Anton “Strss893” Pavsyuk and the product design was helmed by Bartek Rogalewicz (Lodge.Black). A collection of limited, numbered vinyl variants will be offered in addition to both colors of the digibook. The album arrives September 16th via Nuclear Blast Records. Pre-order the album – HERE
