Following the release of the band’s retrospective Zeitgeister, “Ascent of the Blessed” serves as the first single of the Caliban’s next chapter.
Long-running German metalcore outfit, Caliban, have announced their forthcoming album Dystopia. While scant on the details (no release date as of yet), the band did offer up the first single “Ascent Of The Blessed”.
Caliban vocalist Andreas Dörner comments about “Ascent Of The Blessed”, “This song is inspired by my imagination of a near-death-experience and the question about my life. It’s about the question if one is a good or an evil person.”
The video was directed by Daniel Prieß, while the album was conceived remotely amid the COVID-19 pandemic and produced by Benjamin Richter (Moonspell, Emil Bulls, Callan Orr, Dream On, Dreamer) and the band’s own guitarist Marc Görtz.
Last year the band released a retrospective album, Zeitgeister featuring mostly re-releases of previous songs, all in their native German and one new track, “nICHts.” Translating their work and giving it new life wasn’t the simplest of tasks, Vocalist Andreas Dörner explained, “It turned out to be surprisingly tricky. While I feel more at home with my native German it made it a lot more complicated, as I had more options to phrase something.”
Guitarist and main songwriter Marc Görtz shared a similar sentiment, “It wasn’t an easy decision, but once we allowed us to make them as different from the originals as we felt it was needed it came fairly naturally.”
Further details on Dystopia will be coming.
