The track marks the first studio single in three years and officially introduces the band’s new configuration.
Revolutionary rock music renegades Fever 333 have begun their next chapter as a unit with the release of the band’s first studio single in three years, “$wing”. A potent mesh of punk sensibility, hip-hop swagger and hardcore ethos round out the latest offering of the band’s distinct audio assault.
The single arrives as the new configuration of the band recently resurfaced with a series of live dates, including a highly-anticipated set at the inaugural Sick New World fest in Las Vegas that delivered on the hype and then some. Flanking frontman Jason Aalon Butler, Fever 333 now consists of a quartet in renowned drummer Thomas Pridgen (The Mars Volta, Thundercat, Trash Talk), bass virtuoso April Kae and guitarist Brandon Davis.
Further building upon the socially-conscious core that defined Fever 333 from its very inception, “$wing” expands on Butler’s mission statement of drawing awareness to and prompting discussion of the marginalization and exploitation of people of color. The latest track examines professional sports through a social-economic lens and emphasizes who really controls the power paradigm when it comes to the big business of superstar athletes.
“In a system that exploits the aforementioned instruments of power (the people) for financial and political advancement, we must collectively understand and redirect the dynamic once we realize that we are not powerless against it”, Butler explains. “‘$WING’ is a sonic reminder that you are the power that they seek and you are the resource they need”.
The resulting track officially marks a new era for the Southern California collective that first resurfaced earlier this month with a hometown house party dubbed the Fever Function. Playing host for a special house party, Butler and the reassembled Fever 333 introduced themselves with a raucous backyard gig that saw Butler close the set with a dive off the rooftop of the South Los Angeles home – ensuring the live intensity synonymous with the band was firmly intact.
Sharing his enthusiasm with the current personnel, Butler spoke highly of his collaborative cohorts. “This new era of FEVER 333 is beyond even what I could have imagined”, Butler says. “The talent, the funk, the passion, and the respect for this project April, Thomas, and Brandon have already delivered have shown me, once again, that this project is something more than a band on stage”.
The arrival of “$wing” also begins a new venture as the band and their label 333 Wreckords Crew have partnered with extreme music authority Century Media Records for the band’s next phase. “I feel very lucky to have entered this partnership with 333 Wreckords Crew and the folks at Century Media for this upcoming album”, Butler shares. “I’m calling it right now – we’re going to shift a paradigm, or two, regarding how this game gets played and how it tries to play us”.
Fever 333 are set to embark on an extensive international campaign that will include several festival dates including plays at Rock AM Ring/Rock Im Park in Germany, Download in the UK, Hellfest in France and Resurrection Fest in Spain before returning for domestic dates that include a spot at Louder Than Life and Aftershock in October.
