The Clergy managed to beat out radio juggernauts Machine Gun Kelly, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Coldplay and Imagine Dragons to take home the hardware.
Among the likely suspects at that would be included in pomp and circumstance of the 50th edition of the American Music Awards – Taylor Swift, Bad Bunny, Beyonce, Harry Styles and even artists like Machine Gun Kelly and Maneskin all had their time in the spotlight.
Among the more unlikely winners however, included a major coup for cinematic metal heroes enigma Ghost, as the arena sensations took home the hardware for ‘Favorite Rock Album’ of the year for their triumphant full length, Impera.
Pitted against mainstream fixtures like Coldplay, Imagine Dragons, the previously mentioned Machine Gun Kelly and Red Hot Chili Peppers, Papa Emeritus IV and the Nameless Ghouls walked with top honors in the category. The win follows the band’s recent grammy nomination for ‘Best Metal Performance’ and their recent tally of their first gold selling singles in the US with “Dance Macabre“, “Cirice” and “Square Hammer“ all earning plaques.
