Intergalactic skullcrushers GWAR have detailed their conquest of 2022 with the news of a brand new concept album and an companion graphic novel released in partnership with comic specialists, Z2 Comics.
Set for an arrival date of June 3rd, GWAR will unleash their fifteen full length assault with The New Dark Ages. The album serves as the first studio album since the band’s 2017 offensive, The Blood of Gods. The album also follows the band’s 2021 charge with their The Disc with No Name acoustic EP and their live commemoration of their seminal Scumdogs of the Universe with the album’s 30th anniversary tour.
The band’s vocal command The Berserker Blóthar declared, “This is the greatest rock record of all time. These are the songs for a new age, a New Dark Age, when men live by the dimming light of a technology destined to betray them. Listen, as we have a rock and roll orgy in the ruins of the world to celebrate humanity’s descent into an age of darkness, disease, ignorance, and death.”
Coupled with the album, GWAR expands into the realm of graphic novels with the launch of GWAR In the Duoverse of Absurdity. Published in partnership with Z2 Comics, the novel depicts an epic standoff in an alternative universe between Gwar and their dastardly doppelgangers that exist behind the fabled Magic Mirror.
The saga features the illustrative talents of Andy MacDonald (Wolverine, Dr Strange, Wonder Woman), Shane White (Things Undone, Braun, Endless Summer), Matt Maguire (GWAR) and GWAR’s own Bob Gorman. Z2, which has published more than 60 various collaborative graphic novels adds to their catalog that includes works with Gorillaz, RZA, Mötley Crüe, Anthrax, Public Enemy, Ronnie James Dio, King Diamond, Cypress Hill, Babymetal, Poppy and so many more.
Z2 editor Rantz Hoseley enthused over the project, “GWAR has made sure that this story is a full throttle hysterical ride into tipping every sacred cow possible and I consider it an honor to help bring this chapter of the band’s legacy to fetid, pulsing, life.”
Gwar’s Bälsäc The Jaws ‘o Death also added, “This was the most utterly engrossing book I’ve ever read! I couldn’t wait until I’d read what was on the page before I was compelled to turn it! This novel has the one element that is missing in so many so-called literary masterpieces: It’s about me!
The New Dark Ages, the fifteenth album from Gwar arrives June 3rd via Pit Records. GWAR in the Duoverse of Absurdity, published via Z2 Comics arrives on the same day. Fans can pre-order both below.
