Megadeth alum James LoMenzo returns as the band’s bassist for upcoming ‘Metal Tour of the Year’

Just days away from the start of the co-headlining run with Lamb of God the thrash titans update their personnel for their return to the stage.

Thrash pillars Megadeth have shared the news that former bassist from the band’s United Abominations and Endgame-eras, James LoMenzo will be returning to resume his role as the band’s touring bassist for the upcoming Metal Tour of the Year co-headliner with Lamb of God.

The tour bears the added significance of marking not only Lamb of God’s first shows since the release of their emphatic 2020 self-titled release, but the run also serves as Megadeth’s first stateside performances since 2017. The tour also marks Mustaine’s triumphant return after his 2019 battle with throat cancer.

As for the reintroduction of LoMenzo into the fold, Mustaine was more than optimistic about the forecast with bands current personnel. “I’m happy to announce that former bassist and Megadeth alumni James LoMenzo has graciously stepped in on the Metal Tour of The Year. Tour rehearsals just began, and we cannot wait to start crushing North America.”

LoMenzo himself was especially enthusiastic about the prospect of not only getting back to the business of live music, but doing so with the Megadeth faithful. “I’m super stoked to be rejoining Megadeth for the upcoming Metal Tour of the Year. There are no better fans than Megadeth fans, I can’t wait to get out there and shred some Megadeth music with you all.”

The Metal Tour Of the Year kicks of on Friday August 20th in Austin, TX and includes an elite level bill rounded out by supporting heavyweights in Trivium and the recent added Hatebreed. In addition to the late summer run, Megadeth will also be featured on interspersed festival dates including highly-anticipated appearances at Blue Ridge Rock Festival and Slipknot’s homecoming spectacle in Knotfest Iowa.
